An Ode to Clearing in the Forest by Jason D’ebre

In days of old when knights were bold
and daring do was fun
When good fought bad and heroes usually won
Then songs of valor through halls would ring
Telling of great deeds and other things

A time when England was fighting France
King John was breathing out his last
Battles were raging things looked grim
John was not a kindly King
Would Philip of France and Odo win

Into this three children came
Ella, John and Geoff their names
Things were scary it’s not a game
With witches, magic and daring do
They fight for survival and England too

Whether they won or lost I will not tell
But because of them England survived
How they faired I cannot tell you have to read the story

Read it to the final page to
Find the spell which still stands
Has saved England from many lands
Because of magic and some tiny hands

Bad Piggy”s

Have you locked the front door
I asked as I climbed into bed
There came a muffled answer
From a sleepy head

Early the next morning
I heard a mournful wail
They’ve been and raided us again
There is an awful mess

They’ve eaten all the cake he cried
And all the mince pies too
I handed him a hanky
What else could I do

I went and put the kettle on
And sent him back to bed
As I cleaned the kitchen up
A thought came to my head

So I got to baking
A new cake and some pies
Then took two cups of tea to bed
It was only half past five

But just before I went to bed
I wrote a little note
To tell those naughty piggy’s off
This is what I wrote

I made those pies and cake
For our Sunday tea
Not for greedy piggy’s
To sit and scoff for free

So it would be a nice change
If you would help me out
And I have been thinking
Some bacon would be fine…

Happy Chainsaw Day

DSCF4393 (640x480) (428x443)

I’m a happy chappy playing with my toys
Chopping off the branches making lots of noise
But I’m being careful as you all can see
Playing in the garden my chainsaw and me

I often play with ladders climbing to the top
I climbed up this blue ladder for the tree to lop
All the upward branches have to come down you see
Then we can pick the olives from lower growth he he

DSCF4394 (640x480) (459x476)

When I’ve finished cutting there’s a lot of stuff about
But its a happy chappy who is climbing out
Of branches lying on the ground where they’ve just been cut
Now I have to clear it up before I cut more stuff

When the tree is finished it will look quite bare
Till spring comes a calling and green shoots it bears
Then it should show its flowers and turn a creamy green
And then in the autumn olives should be seen

DSCF4500

Its looking pretty stumpy now but that will not last long
The birds are getting rather cross their insect boughs are gone
But soon it will start to grow again and then whoopy my friends
I can get my chainsaw out and we will start again

Footprints

Today I started on some steps
To the cacti garden up they’ll go
Stood back surveyed the three I’d built
And thought my afternoon well spent

Next morning once again I went
To build another three
And in the concrete there I spied
Little bird prints oh dear me

Just like naughty children they
Had hopped across the step
Leaving little foot prints
Everywhere they went

But I am not that bothered
They look quite nice you see
Reminders why we live here
Our fun and nature are free

So I have just rewarded them
A brand new Water Bar
Nice shallow dish to bathe in
Have I gone to far?

Sitting In The Garden

I was thinking of a summers day
Sniffing the air smelling new mown hay
Late in the afternoon on a summers day
Sitting in the garden

Sitting in the garden in the evening shade
Looking at the flowers nodding in the late sun
Sunhat shading my old eyes now my work is done
Still sitting in the garden

Sitting in the garden drinking a cup of tea
Watching my little bonfire just the dog and me
Soon be time for walkies for my dog and me
Sitting in the garden

Sitting in the garden making the most of the sun
Just lazing here and resting this is so much fun
But come tomorrow it will be gone back will come the rain
No sitting in the garden wont get wet again

It’s Not Fair

Sitting on the fence staring at my friend
Whilst she is washing up all I can do is hold my hands
It’s not fair she will not play or take the time to chase me away
All because her brother is here today it’s not fair

If here on the fence I sit she’ll flap a teatowl at me flick, flick, flick
Then off I hop, tail in the air looking back making sure she’s there
It is a game we play each day I really hate it when she’s away
Today BJ chases me away it’s not fair it’s not his game

Still her brother goes this afternoon but not until it’s getting late
Tomorrow morning I’ll be there sitting on the fence or gate
Then we can carry on our game and things will soon be just the same
My friend, the garden fence and me perhaps I’ll let BJ join in we will see.

Nature’s Delight

I wake to the sun shining through the tree
It’s dappled light gladdens me
A new day awakening I see
I’m glad these sights are greeting me.

The sun smiles down so bright and hot
As in to the shade I gently flop
A breeze is blowing over me
Relaxing here beneath my tree.

Late afternoon shade deepens now
The air is cooler yet somehow
Large clouds gather overhead
Some rain oh yes please these words are said.

As evening rolls on into night
Distant rumblings heard that’s right
A thunderstorm is on it’s way
A perfect end to a very hot day.

The lightening flashes whilst thunder blasts
Rain falling through the night at last
Dawn brings a feeling earth refreshed
I smell watered earth so clean and fresh.

I hear birds singing in the trees
Drinking from the still wet leaves
Plants once crying out for moisture
Now stand tall looking stronger.

Looking across the forest scene
Seeing fir trees strong and green
All this is mine this wild fresh view
A happier man I never knew.
