Poppy Awakening

DSCF3880 (640x480) (562x398)

When I awoke this morning
I did so with a smile
Last night I walked again with him
Along the poppy mile

We talked about how things were then
And how things were now
I did not cry at all last night
I am not crying now

I feel at peace and rested
But I really don’t know how
I can feel his loving hand
Soothing my poor brow

As I lie here thinking
A voice inside my head
Tells me to go make breakfast
The children must be fed

Today they seem more rested
Not so stressed anymore
We ate our meal together
Just like we did before

Then off to school they went
Leaving me behind
To tidy up the house again
I know I will be fine

To make the beds a new I went
And guess what I did see
From upon our pillows
A poppy stared at me

I gently touched each flower
And then I felt his hand
He had never left us
Now I understand

So this coming Sunday
We will all be there
Wearing our red poppies
Proud just like before

Happy New Year

DSCF0122 (640x480)[1]

Now that Christmas time has passed
A new year approaches fast
Presents unwanted have been swapped
But will this rain never stop

The holidays are fine if dry
But times are hard you can’t deny
Homes awash just like the streets
It’s tough out there without heat

There’s more rain on its way they say
Who feels merry who feels gay
But look ahead to what might be
A bright new year for you and me

Do not think about that now
Look forward to holidays that you seek
In warmer climes with sun and sand
Grab travel books of other lands

Brows select and then book
And start to plan for the sun
For dress and swimsuits you can wear
When on holiday you are there

So settle back and reflect my dear
On the passing of the year
Make resolutions bold and new
A HAPPY NEW YEAR from me to you

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE

Lest We Forget

There on the Flanders fields we lay
We gave our bodies but our souls still stay
The war was bloody in trenches lay
Other fallen heroes

We fought for freedom we fought for peace
Our country needed us we answered the call
But death was all most of us found
We now lie here beneath the ground

Then politicians never learn or heed
The lessons of the past they ignore
Again the ugly head of war rose up
More souls in fields lay down to rest

Silent cemeteries now abound
Across the lands where once we fought
Cared for by those who remember us who lie
Under green of grass and blue of sky

Whilst over our heads is swathes of red
Sway poppies who remember us the dead
So plant some poppies in a corner shade
In honour of the dead and the brave

Remember them upon their day
For they never again will pass this way
For thoses who are left be proud of them
They are our Heroes our honoured ones

Wear your poppy with pride to show
They did not die in vain then turn to
The brave who are still alive and show
We are grateful and we care

REMEMBER THEM!

A European Trip

To England to England to England we go
Oh for the feel of rain wind and snow

To France to France we’ll travel anew
For wine, bread, garlic and onions too

To Belgium to Belgium to Belgium we’ll move on
Tasting their chocolates and singing songs

To Holland to Holland to Holland we’ll fly
For cheeses and tulips oh my oh my

To Germany to Germany to Germany more rain
With beer and sausage reminds us of Spain

Then down through the continent on into Spain
Home again home again dam theres no rain
