Happy Chainsaw Day

DSCF4393 (640x480) (428x443)

I’m a happy chappy playing with my toys
Chopping off the branches making lots of noise
But I’m being careful as you all can see
Playing in the garden my chainsaw and me

I often play with ladders climbing to the top
I climbed up this blue ladder for the tree to lop
All the upward branches have to come down you see
Then we can pick the olives from lower growth he he

DSCF4394 (640x480) (459x476)

When I’ve finished cutting there’s a lot of stuff about
But its a happy chappy who is climbing out
Of branches lying on the ground where they’ve just been cut
Now I have to clear it up before I cut more stuff

When the tree is finished it will look quite bare
Till spring comes a calling and green shoots it bears
Then it should show its flowers and turn a creamy green
And then in the autumn olives should be seen

DSCF4500

Its looking pretty stumpy now but that will not last long
The birds are getting rather cross their insect boughs are gone
But soon it will start to grow again and then whoopy my friends
I can get my chainsaw out and we will start again

Oh Oh The Rain

weather file-6

Oh oh the rain is here again I ache when it’s around
Nights spent listening to its gentle fall
Or hammering pounding on roof as if from Thor
Watering plants who drink their fill
Puddles left where you walk making for new paths
Oh oh the rain.

In valleys mist shrouds all
Landscape looks like a foreign country
Scenes change as clouds drift
Rivers swell and swiftly flow past field and village
Cliffs become unstable landslides occur
Oh oh the rain

In a land where the sun always shines
Rain is welcomed a gentle cooling relief from the heat
But it continues reservoirs once empty fill
Dry rivers slowly start to fill
The dams are full some overspill
Oh oh the rain

But look around at what you see
Trees in fruit or flower be
Fields of flowers colours spread
The bees their yellow pollen bags full
As home to make their honey flew
Oh oh the rain

No ark is needed here today
Toads and frogs come out to play
Olives trees turning cream as of their oil we dream
The almond trees are bearing nuts
Rain at night sun by day this is just the perfect way
For rain oh rain to come our way

In The Olive Garden

DSCF0720 (640x480)

Sitting in the morning sun
After rain is so much fun
But still there is much to be done
In the Olive Garden

The weeds are high after the rain
Wild flowers in swathes of colour maintain
The feeling of the wild again
In the Olive Garden

Strawberries fruiting in their patch
White flowers red fruit oh what a match
Their green leaves spreading all around
In the Olive Garden

Wild grape hyacinths with heads of blue
Their subtle perfume of memories make
Of walks beside ponds and lakes
In the Olive Garden

Iris heads peep out from leaves of green
Like prema donnas they wait to be seen
Beneath the tree that is their home
In the Olive Garden

Bees around the freesias play
Buzzing to and fro all day
Whilst freesia perfume drifts with the breeze
In the Olive Garden

I’ve weeded this I’ve weeded that
I’ve worked all day and that is that
I’ll sip my tea and relax here
In the Olive Garden

Oh dear oh dear I spoke too soon
It’s been raining all afternoon
There’ll be more weeds more work to do
In the Olive Garden

My Thoughts and Me

Sitting in the shade of the old olive tree
Me some wine my thoughts and me
Reflecting on the way things be
Me some wine my thoughts and me.

The swing seat swayed by gentle breeze
Rocking my wine my thoughts and me
Hazy lazy times are these
Rocking my wine my thoughts and me.

I’m hundreds of years younger than thee
With some wine my thoughts and me
Beneath your out spread branches I be
With some wine my thoughts and me.

Young green olives I look up to see
I some wine my thoughts and me
Soon black they’ll turn more work there’ll be
I some wine my thoughts and me.

Wonderful juice from this fruit there will appear
Accompanying some wine my thoughts and me
Over fresh bread with tomatoes for tea
Accompanying some wine my thoughts and me.

So I’ll just sit here let my mind roam free
Peaceful some wine my thoughts and me
How happy I am to be at home
Peaceful some wine my thoughts and me.

A calling voice my name that’s me
Relaxing some wine my thoughts and me
Come on sweetie it’s time for tea
Relaxing some wine my thoughts and me.

Happy Times

The wind in the sails sun glares off the sea

I’m sailing the channel feeling free

I don’t have to rush no work for me

I’m on my boat, I’m retired you see.

——————–

The trees need pruning to provide a crop

The pruned branches for fire wood I’ll chop

But not in the sun, it’s far to hot

On my farm in the forest I am free

I’m retired you see.

——————–

Watching the birds in the trees is fine

Sitting in this chair of mine

Cool glass of something in my hand

At peace, at home, this is me

I’m retired you see.

——————–

My writing set out on my desk

In shady gazebo here I wrest

With plots and characters all is fine

Laptop’s ready but not me

I’m retired you see.

———————–

But now it’s 3.30 and I am off

Down to the river don’t you scoff

The petanca courts are calling me

My friends await we all are free

We’re all retired you see.

———————-

We are young at heart and in our minds

We really do enjoy our time

O.A.P’s we all might be

But you’ll not find us lacking oh no not we

We’re all retired you see.

———————-

Life is not just for the young

We can now relax and have some fun

Oh happy band of peeps are we

Long may we be so me and thee

We are all retired you see.
